hi everyone .

my name is dekker i have been keeping tropical fish for about a year now, i have two community setups, one is a 120lt which has ,neons, silvertips, mollys and ar.t.b.shark.

setup 2 , is a 240 lt ,and has 8 pearl gouramis, 10 platys , 4 juvenile plecs. plus a male betta.

Starting fish

Hiya guys, hope all is well in your fish world .

I was just thinking how much part of my day to day routine looking after the fish is. I used to panic about water testing and changes etc, but now am a bit more laid back about it, as everything seems to be ticking along ok.

I also remember agonising about what fish to get to start off with, being terrified that I didnt get the wrong ones.

Did you all spend hours studying all the various fish before deciding what to get, or ...

Help My Blue Congo Tetra got stuck in a hole

On Sunday I bought 2 Blue Congo Tetras when I came home from work last night one of them had tried to swim threw a hole in the ornamental castle which was too small for it and proceeded to get stuck. I managed to get it out but it has some slight damage just behind it's head and has now gone into hiding. is their anything I can do to prevent it becoming infected? Or do I just need to keep my fingures crossed and hope it's okay?

Been on the look out for a pair of Dwarf Cockatoo Cichlids since GD put up pics of his. FINALLY found a pair, i got them about a week ago, couldnt get a pic of the female cos she doesnt ever stop moving lol. But here's there male anyway

Came back from a couple of days away and found my tank in chaos. The filter had broken down at some time, the water was all cloudy and I had an outbreak of algae. All the fish were at the top of the tank and looked like they were gasping.

Ive put a new filter in and used the old sponges in it (the tank will be cycling now riight?), and did a big water change and a clean and have added a water bubbles stone.

Some of the fish still dont look right though. Is there anything else I ...

I have 'inherited' a tank from my neighbours so this is a brand new anorak for me, to go alongside the ones for photography, gardening, computers, books, bonsai, orchids, saving the world... maybe not the last one. The tank is just a tiddler holding around 20-23 liters which was filled with gravel, substrate and water on Saturday and then planted up late Sunday as the plants were bought ...

As some of you know, recently I had to move my coldwater fish (goldfish and WCMM) from their current tank to a new tank due to the old tank springing a leak. Anyway, I had just gotten to the point in the old tank where it was lovely and clean and had gone beyond that horrible brown gunky buildup of diatoms that often affects new tanks. Guess what? The new tank is now covered with the same horrible brown gunky mess so back to square one....grrr, time to dig out the algae sponge and toothbrush ...

Hi Everyone

I have quite a few bristlenose fry - piebald ones for sale, they are just about 1cm but older than they look, they take after dad who is less than 3" - �1 each or 6 for �5

I also have a young pair of kribensis, not quite ready to breed but they have definitely paired up - �5 the pair.

Local collection only as I don't have the means to post at present.

So here's a question for all you cichlid experts. I am going to get another tank in the next month or so - probably about 200litres and was thinking of getting some cichlids - the photo's of them on here have been amazing!

What do I need to consider though before getting any - apart from the size some of them might grow to. Do they have any specific requirememnts I need to consider, and is it best to go for cichlids from a certain area more than another?

I was in a pet shop last week (not a proper LFS) and noticed that they had 3 green spotted puffers in a community tank with a load of gouramis. I politely mentioned it to one of the workers that it probably wasn't a good idea but the response was basically "thanks but butt out of our business..."

I went in this morning to get some pet food and sure enough, all the gouramis were so badly fin nipped, some of them barely had any finnage left. I was just shocked and appalled and ...

That's the title of a new book by Richard Ellis, the wildlife painter who focuses on ocean creatures for his numerous books. This one is about tuna before it lands in the can. My local newspaper made it sound intriguing. I will review it when I can get hold of it, which I hope is soon.

I know it's not about aquarium fish, but it is a fish subject, so I thought it would be of interest.

Watched big brother last night and they give the housemates 2 goldfish in a small round bowl then Rachel decides to feed them ,where is the RSPCA to advise these people or step in and stop it ,so wrong. Those fish will be dead before the week is out .

Changing Tanks

What I am after is some tips and advice on what to do when changing over Main tanks?

I am going to replace the Jinlong (poop machine) with possibly a Juwel RIO 180. Due to various reasons, one being the high lite units in the newer RIOs.

Anyway I am after some advice, tips, step by step guide of how to go about this safey and stress free for the fish?

Should the fish be in buckets at all times yadda yadda....

Should I use fresh Gravel or use the stuff from Main tank and get more to ...

Okay here I go as promised. The fishless cycling went extremely well (I think the live plants really helped). A visit to a local dealer and a long look round and chat I am now looking after 6 small zebra danios and a single small corydoras(not sure what type but I was informed a max size of around 5cm). Hello everyone. I havent been on for such a while, I hope you dont mind me just popping in again You were all so helpful when I used to come on before, and I would like a bit of help again.

I have been having a bit of trouble with the fish. First of allI lost the two mollies that I had. I dont know what happened to them, one I never found and the other I found floating in the tank. I hadnt noticed any signs of illness on them, they just seemed to die.
