PostSubject: Nipped fins   Tue Jun 03, 2008 8:35 am

Well since my addition this morning I return home from work to notice some C A R N A G E has been taking place whilst away.

My nice little pair of cockatoos tail fins are VERY nipped! only fish recently added....

DUN DUN DUN.....

The Male constantly hides under the bogwood. Whilst the female has taken over the coconut cave which I believe has ledto the aggro between the apistos and the frigging Killifish.

Suggestions please?

Is this a return to the LFS with the Killi? If I gotta choose I will stick with the cockatoos Sad

It could be. Have you seen any actual aggression between them?? If you do see it nipping them then definitely bag it up and take it back Smile

It could just be territory sorting, keep your water spotless and give them a day or two.

For what it is worth my praecox rainbows can be nippy lil buggers.

Right. update:

firstly it was DEFFINATELY the female killi she was chasing them for close to 1 hour.
So I have set up the 320 as I dont like to see the fish cower in a corner from another fish.
The Killi tank will be left a species only

MC - hope you dont mind if I keep ur filter a few weeks longer whilst I seed my fluval one to replace your fluval 2 in the Aquastart 320.
Secondly when I want to seed the fluval 1 should I just put the foam in my Big filter somewhere? or should I put the whole fluval 1 in the main tank running seperate?

Secondly If i put the foam into my main external filter any particulat baskt or compartment I should use?

Also due to the nipped fins I have added Melafix(API) i think its called to heal any possible infections/cuts. No carbon is in the filter either.

Gd, keep the fluval on very long term loan, it's fine. It's up to you how you seed it, either way will be fine Smile

If you put it in the external, i'd go for where the first sponge is from the bottom up, to be sure you get semi-unfiltered water through.
Do you have an airstone running? Melafix is a great natural remedy & much cheaper if you buy the pond version. You only need a fraction of the amount of the aquarium one. I use it & have done for 18months, safely Smile

I would with meds in... some meds can reduce the oxygen level a bit. More so when you have increased temps tho Smile

Cant really re-o the tank. Not much can change. I have noticed for the hydor you can buy resin things to cover some of the airator.

Geysers and volcanos...
