Could anyone tell me if fisg really need some sort of backing on their tank, or is it just to make them look nice? I took mine off a couple of days ago because I didnt like it any more, but am wondering now if I need to replace it with something or not?

hiya tardis, I have read that it makes the fish feel more secure to have a backing sheet on the tank (I wonder how they know that??), but have seen tanks with no backing on. I think though the majority of people have a backing sheet because of that.

My main tank has no back and the fish dont seem bothered. However I am waiting for the right one i guess.

The shell dwellers tank has a backing picture and to be honest I dont notice any change in behaviour between the tanks.

I guess it would depend what colour the wall was behind the tank.

I think it just comes down to personal opinion. So long as you have plenty of plants and decor to help the fish feel more secure, it's not really necessary. I only have backing on my goldfish tank as it came with it already attached. The other tanks have no backing and I actually prefer it that way as I can actually see the fish! Wink

That's why you put in background plants - to hide the back wall... Very Happy
