PostSubject: Heart Attack?   Tue Mar 24, 2009 7:23 am

I lost my beautiful 14" Ornate Bichir Crying or Very sad last night. He went into spasms and just keeled over.

I had done a water change - normal routine really - earlier in the day and he had been out and active, he looked healthy, plump etc.

Then just had these spasms and died .... Sad I reckon a heart attack but any other possibilities?

Oh indi, that's a shame! It sounds a bit strange doesn't it? I suppose foish can have spasms/ heart attacks, I just hadn't heard of it.

There couldn't have been anything different in the water could there?

Other fish are ok, including 2 different bichir so don't think so.

Sorry about yor fish indi. It must have been a shock for you to see that. I know this sounds daft but somehow it must be more upsetting to lose a big fish. I have lost a few of mine over the months, but mostly they have just gone missing - eaten I guess.

That seems better than finding a 14" fish dead in the tank dunno

I would say so, charley. I've lost 50+ fish for various reasons - initial cycling, disease, predation, unknown causes - and, although it was upsetting, I hadn't really bonded with any of them, not like I have now with my beloved BN Plec, Pearl Gouramis, Angelfish etc. I'd be gutted if anything happened to them. silent

It is hard to lose big fish, I think because they seem more like 'pets'. Definitely miss the big guy, even with the oscars in the tank looks empty without him.

I'm looking for something unusual to replace him. Maybe another bichir or eel... or a plec Smile
