I would love to keep a seahorse tank but apparently that is the ultimate in marine keeping as they are highly sensitive creatures. Of all the various fish forums that I've been a member of, I've only ever come across one person who managed to keep them successfully. Wink

was reading this site chez

http://www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk/

some interesting info on there about them. Apparently the main problem with them is if you get wild caught - the home bred ones are apparently a bit more hardy.

There's some really interesting info on that page - even if you are not thinking of having any Smile

One of my LFS has a larger marine section than tropical and often has beautiful pairs of seahorses, I've read quite a few success stories, including people breeding them. I'm not tempted by marine (yet!) but if I was I'd want seahorses...

chez, I only remembered this last night. When I first set up my trop tank, I got it all set up and looking lovely with some Coral sand - it was a lovely colour and looked great.

Unfortunately it took the ph up to over 8, so I had to remove it all and put gravel in instead.

If you want your ph to go up a bit, you might want to try and add some of it and see how much it affects your ph - might just bring it up to where you want it to be Smile

Thanks Diane
I Have coral sand in.
I Have stopped putting the main sunlight on for a couple of days
I Have just the evening one on. the corals have all opened up so thats ok.
maybe the marine light is too strong just yet in the new set op.
I am just going to feed a small amount of flakes as well
as the other day I put frozen brine shrimp in, and now found out not to as yet..
we will see now, time will tell I Guess,
I will get a Turbo snail when everything has settled down.
he should sift sand better.
3 hermit crabs and a snail oh and a 1 armed boxer shrimp seems to be doing nothing........

1 armed Shocked yep when he shed his shell It seems he only grew one arm
(with claw on back)
but read this happens and his other will grow back..lol

I saw some seahorses a few weeks ago in one of the lfs I went into. Have to say they didnt look particiularly healthy but I guess they were shocked/stressed etc.

Are they all wild caught or captive bred does anyone know? Seems a shame if they are wild caught somehow (dont want to start the old ethics of fishkeeping argument, just making a comment!)
