i bought some pieces of driftwood a few months back but then i forgot about them. now i've decided to clean them and put them in the tank

how on earth do i clean driftwood? someone told me to boil it and leave it in a bucket of water overnight. is that the only way?

Do you mean you just want to get rid of the tannins so it doesn't make your water brown, or are they dirty with something else?

If you mean just to get rid of the tannins, well first of all you don't realy have to - it doesn't harm your fish at all, just stains the water. If you don't like that effect the you need to soak it in a bucket of boiling water leave overnight and then repeat the process till the water runs clean - it could take a while though.

If it is stained or impreganated with something then I would recommend getting rid of it and finding another piece, but if you want to persist I suppose you would have to scrub it with a hard brush and soak repeatedly.
