People normally run them from a sump setup so it will be interesting to see how yours works out Very Happy

Sorry to show my ignorance again, but I dont understand what the benefit of this is.

It says = "This toxic ammonia (NH3) is converted to another toxic compound nitrite (NO2) by the Nitrosomonas species of bacteria. The nitrite is then converted to a relatively non toxic compound called nitrate (NO3) by the Nitrobacter species of bacteria."

Isnt this what happens in an ordinary filter??

Where does the Nitrate go? Does it remain in the sand, is that the difference?

scratch dunno

I think so Charley, all i know is its a lot better than an ordinary filter which also needs NO maintainance (BONUS!) lol

It is. BUT: it has a much larger biological surface area allowing for quicker conversions. The Nitrate is removed in WCs. The main point of them as that they have a large bio surface area allowing for more fish and less maintenance. There are other reasons that i can't think of right now! Very Happy

Tank as of today (Bogwoods been soaking a week and have attatched plants to it and put it into the tank)

Gonna get some sort of ornament in there too (like a HUGE ship or something). I actually thought I wouldnt be able to fit anything else in once the bogwood was in...how wrong was i...now its bare on one side lol!

I know the plants may not last long once the oscars get bigger, but baby piranhas need them really cos they're quite shy.

Looks great, Phishy. I love Java Fern - I started off with only a couple of plants but it's grown so well, I now have it attached to everything in the tanks. Smile
